A group photo was taken of the Governing Council and EU Commissioner Olli Rehn displaying the new €5 banknote inside transparent stars.
Jozef Makúch, Governor of Národná banka Slovenska and Mario Draghi, President of the European Central Bank (ECB), said a few words about the new €5 banknote. The ECB President also signed some of the new banknotes for a group of “euro generation” children – those who have grown up only knowing the euro.
The public need to be able to recognise the new security features easily. To ensure this, the ECB and the national central banks of the Eurosystem are conducting an information campaign about the Europa series and the new €5 banknote across the euro area this year. The campaign material includes this website and, in particular, four videos on the new €5 banknote and its security features. To help those who handle cash as part of their everyday work, the Eurosystem also sent leaflets to over 3 million shops and banks in the euro area in April 2013.
